Mesa Rim is looking for a self-driven and experienced coach to lead the competitive youth climbing team at our newest location in Reno, NV! In addition to being passionate about climbing, the Head Coach will also be passionate about coaching youth and supporting their climbing journey. Mesa Rim includes two full-size climbing and fitness centers and a world-class climbing training center in San Diego. We are stoked to be opening our doors to our new Reno location in late summer this year! Mesa Rim Reno is a custom-built ground-up facility with over 22,000 square feet of bouldering and sport climbing.  Our new facility is located in beautiful Reno, Nevada which lies at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains and along the banks of the Truckee River.  The front door of the gym is forty-five minutes away from epic bouldering and climbing around Lake Tahoe and the slopes of Olympic-quality ski hills.

The Head Coach will be responsible for:

The Head Coach ensures operational excellence of all Youth Climbing Programs (Recreational & Team), Adult Instructional Programs (Clinics/Classes & Private Instruction), and Fitness Programs.  In collaboration with supervisor and Team Mesa Rim – SD Head Coach, the incumbent will develop, implement, and oversee Youth, Instruction and Fitness operations, programming, and performance.  The Head Coach ensures high standards of training and instruction for athletes of all abilities.

In partnership with Team Mesa Rim – San Diego, develop and implement developmentally appropriate training curriculums for Team Mesa Rim – Reno athletes of all abilities, documenting the progress of athletes, setting goals, and consistently teaching and reinforcing safety protocols.

Oversee Youth, Instruction, and  Fitness Programs operations, maintaining monthly budgets, scheduling, tracking attendance trends, monitoring and supervising instructor performance, and ensuring smooth operation of program check in.
Set examples of professional behavior and excellent customer service at all times and act as mentor to Team Coaches, as well as direct reports as applicable.

Maintain on-site presence, troubleshoot as necessary, and revise operational practices as necessary for any of the following: understaffed program, new staff or staff requiring supervision/development, new program activities, high profile programs, programs involving strategic partnerships, or any program with unusual elements.

Serve as Mesa Rim cultural example, consistently demonstrating and holding others accountable to Mesa Rim Core Values.

This is a full-time position that requires working some evenings, weekends and occasional travel.

Qualified applicants will have:

Must have at least 5 years climbing experience
Must have at least 5 years competitive coaching experience
Must have at least 2 years of experience developing climbing programming, experience with youth climbing training, and experience successfully engaging adult and youth climbing community
Must have excellent organizational, documentation and communication skills
USAC Certified Coach or the ability to acquire certification within 90 days
Must demonstrate an inclusive coaching philosophy that fosters community, builds confidence, and nurtures individual development on and off the walls
Must be able to professionally communicate with participants, parents, and members of the public on behalf of Mesa Rim
Must be a compatible match with the Mesa Rim Climbing Center culture
Must pass criminal and sex offender background check prior to start of work
Previous supervisory experience strongly preferred
