For the climbing industry, it’s one of the best times of the year! The big week in Pittsburgh is here, World Cup competitions are underway in Salt Lake City, and right around the corner is the marquis event of the year for route setters.
After a successful debut in January, the Setter Summit is back for a second edition on June 19-24. In tandem with the Setter Summit, the second CBJ Grip Showcase of the year will be going down on June 21-24. Route setters, you won’t want to miss this week!
Setter Summit 2.0
Hosted by Vertical Solutions and Proxy Climbing and held at The Front SLC, the upcoming Setter Summit will have even more learning opportunities than last time, with five days of clinics and networking for all skill levels. There are five tracks available, all led by veteran instructors. Starter and Intermediate tracks offer CWA Intro to Route Setting and Rope Setting clinics, with the opportunity to gain CWI Training and CWA Work at Height certifications over the course of the week.
Spots are limited, so sign up soon! Registration includes: access to a discounted hotel block; lunch on all clinic days; access to all happy hours, networking events and parties; and day passes to the Front Climbing Club on clinic days.

CBJ Grip Showcase SLC
One month after the CBJ Grip Showcase Pittsburgh, route setters from around the world will be back in action in Salt Lake City, setting their best work with the finest holds on the market. Last year The Front South Main was the playground of choice, and this year The Front SLC will host the CBJ Grip Showcase SLC’s return.
This time the event will entail a citizen comp on June 24, the final day of the Setter Summit, featuring 20 of the best climbing hold and volume brands, which will get an entire bouldering problem set with only their shapes. Competitors will vote for their favorite grips in the Pebble Climbing app, with the winning brand receiving the CBJ Grip Showcase SLC Award in the 2023 CBJ Grip List. There will be a Route Setter Award this year, as well, for the setter with the top-ranked bouldering problem.
All the new shapes will also be on display at a Mini Trade Show on June 21, and an After Party will follow the Grip Showcase comp on June 24.
