    Spire Climbing + Fitness is seeking a motivated and dedicated individual to lead and manage our growing youth competitive climbing program (Bozeman Climbing Team).  We are looking for someone who enjoys working with competitive youth, is a leader, and can inspire the next generation of climbers.  Spire has two state-of-the-art locations, a main facility and a training center, located in Bozeman, MT, which include 22,600 sf of full service climbing and fitness.  We are a community-oriented organization striving to provide the best possible experience for our customers and employees.  We are an equal opportunity employer and support the growth and development of all our staff.

    Position Overview

    As the Head Coach/Team Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our youth climbing team program. You will lead our team of coaches and work closely with our athletes to develop their skills, inspire their passion for climbing, and cultivate a supportive and inclusive team environment. Additionally, you will oversee the administrative and logistical aspects of our climbing team, ensuring smooth operations and effective communication with athletes, parents, and staff.

    Responsibilities

    • Responsible for the success and growth of our competitive youth program.
    • Develop, coach, and train our 75+ youth athletes.
    • Develop training curriculum while working with our coaching team to implement the programing and schedules for bouldering, sport, and speed climbing seasons
    • Coordinate practices and effectively delegate tasks to supporting team coaches
    • Actively recruit, hire, train, manage and schedule supporting team coaches
    • Manage team tryouts, climber assessments, private lessons and develop individual training plans
    • Coordinate competition schedules, travel arrangements, and logistics for events and competitions
    • Attend competitions such as local, regional, divisional, and national level USAC competitions with athletes
    • Actively recruit new team members and identify talent
    • Work evenings and certain weekends for training and competitions
    • Coordinate and attend team community events such as team dinners, parent meetings, and post season celebrations
    • Communicate with parents and athletes about team updates, practices, and competitions. Build exceptional rapport with athletes and parents
    • Manage conflicts and issues between athletes, parents, and coaches
    • Manage the team budget and account billing, USAC (Sport 80), team website, social media accounts, team news, ordering of team uniforms and apparel
    • Communicate with the Operations Manager and other department managers to coordinate scheduling and gym operations to promote overall member experience
    • Be a positive and active role model in our community
    • Additional responsibilities such as route setting, instruction, personal training, and customer service may be added based on the skill, experience, and goals of the successful applicant
    • Reports to General Manager

    Qualifications

    • Demonstrated success in coaching and training of competition level athletes ideally at the youth regional, divisional, and national levels in all disciplines (preferably as a head coach or lead role).
    • Strong understanding of competitive climbing formats, technique, training methods, and injury prevention
    • Proven experience as a leader with excellent communication and emotional intelligence skills
    • Demonstrated success managing, inspiring, and motivating staff and athletes
    • Three or more years of climbing experience, preferably at the competitive level
    • L2 USAC Coach certified or ability to acquire a USAC L2 Coach Certification and pass background check

    Desirable Skill Sets and Characteristics

    • Passion for climbing and fitness
    • Experience climbing both indoors and outdoors, with all disciplines and technical rock skills
    • Self-motivated and strong teamwork skills
    • Highly organized, goal oriented, and time management skills
    • Ability to perform commercial route setting for the public as well as team-specific comp setting up to V8 and 5.13
    • Higher level education in a related field such as Personal Training or Exercise Science
    • Experience using Rock Gym Pro
    • CPR/First Aid
    • Willing to make a long-term commitment

    Details/Compensation/Benefits

    • Salary $50,000 – $70,000 DOE
    • Full-time with option for flexible PTO in off season
    • Performance based bonus potential
