Whetstone Climbing (Whetstone), opened in January 2019, in Ft. Collins, CO and is Northern Colorado’s largest indoor climbing center!  Amenities within our world class 30,000 square foot (SF) facility include over 21,000 SF of indoor climbing, 2,000 SF of fitness, yoga, retail shop and a café serving beer, wine and food.  Our mission is to foster climbing, connecting and community.  Our vision is to share the wealth of the climbing experience, which changes lives for good!

Retail Buyer Job Description

Whetstone is seeking a detail oriented and passionate climber who is eager to grow the retail offering to our community. This role is responsible for making all retail purchases, ensuring that staff are trained on the products Whetstone carries, and working with brand reps to schedule clinics and demos.  Whetstone’s core values of Gratitude, Dedication, Pride and Innovation drive our business, community and are integral to our success.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Initiate retail restock and preseason orders as necessary
  • Oversee retail lineup and decide on what to add and drop
  • Develop and run internal trainings on retail products and customer service
  • Work with brand reps to schedule staff clinics and member demos
  • Analyze sales data to make strategic decisions on order quantities, add/drop products, and forecast preseason orders
  • Manage and communicate retail inventory and profitability to management
  • Attend trade shows as necessary
  • Oversee merchandising layout
  • Work in conjunction with Marketing and Director of Ops
  • Report to Owner


  • Accept and provide guidance and feedback from and to management
  • Excellent oral communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office is required
  • Strong work ethic
  • Self‐motivated
  • Ability to manage workflow
  • Acute attention to detail
  • Work performed will be at Whetstone


  • Has a strong knowledge of climbing products
  • Ability to analyze sales data as well as create sales forecasts and budgets
  • Buyer experience preferred
  • Has the ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to multitask
  • Experience with RGP software

Hours, Compensation & Timing

  • This is a non-exempt hourly compensated position
  • We offer competitive compensation commensurate with experience
  • 15-20 hours per week
  • $22 – $27/hr
  • Full time & benefit potential (401k, PTO and health insurance)
  • Relocation compensation available
  • Weekdays, occasional nights and weekends
  • Start date for this position is February 2022
