Job Description: Routesetter (Full-Time)

Reports to: Director of Routesetting

This position is full-time, with the expectation of setting 3-4 days a week.

Reach is a state of the art indoor rock climbing and fitness facility located in Bridgeport, PA. Reach exists to offer the best climbing experience in the Philadelphia area. We serve any level of fitness seeker from first time climber to those training for lifetime goals. We strive to have the most complete facility, knowledgeable and engaged staff, comprehensive youth programming, and strongest community in the region.

Responsibilities:

  • Adherence to safe routesetting practices, such as the use of PPE, proper ladder usage, etc
  • Set an equitable amount of routes and boulder problems for all Reach Climbing and Fitness facilities
  • Contribute as a team member to forerunning
  • Collaborate with setters on boulders and routes
  • Set for and attend all competitions and events (includes occasional weekends)
  • Help introduce fresh ideas and concepts during setting days
  • Assist with wall maintenance as needed
  • Assist with stripping of walls and washing of holds
  • Assist with auto belay and rope inspections and replacements
  • Maintain cleanliness of setting room and garage
  • Maintain organization of personal gear
  • Communicate and engage with the climbing community
  • Assist with volume construction/maintenance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of commercial routesetting experience
  • Level 1 (or higher) USAC routesetting certification
  • Competition routesetting experience
  • The ability to forerun boulders V7 and up
  • The ability to forerun routes 5.13- and up

Compensation:

Pay:  Starting at $18/hr, depending on experience.

Since opening in May of 2019, Reach has hosted almost a dozen competitions, including Collegiate Nationals, Youth Nationals, Youth Divisionals, Youth Regionals, and many more.
