Why Set With Us?

Located in Detroit’s Eastern Market district, DYNO Detroit is an 18,400 sq. ft. ground up gym layered with 17k sq.ft. of climbing surface built by Walltopia (12k ropes at 30-48 ft. and 5k bouldering). 80+ anchors in total with approximately 50 TR and 30 lead routes. Walls designed by Jason Kehl to include large panels, diverse angle distribution and clean colors ensuring versatile routesetting and a positive climbing experience for all levels.

We own a 2013 45ft JLG lift that can set approximately 90% of anchors. For setting on ropes we adhere to the CWA and Petzl work at height protocol with 2 complete kits for use. All other tools and equipment will be provided.

Holds from Technics, e-grips, Rock Candy, So ill, Cheetah, Ibex, Flat Hold, X-Cult, EP, Kilter, Blue Pill, Blocz with a quarterly budget designated for additional holds and volumes.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead by example and represent the setting team in a consistent and professional manner at all times. Mentorship is an essential part of this role and you must take pride in serving as the Head Routesetter.
  • Manage and oversee all route setting sessions to ensure quality, production and safety standards are met, and all duties are completed.
  • Implement and enforce the strictest safety protocol including: proper use of work at height PPE, ladder protocol, eye protection and ensuring climbs are properly set/secure for commercial climbing.
  • Ensure the wellness of the routesetting team by building injury mitigation protocol such as: warm-ups, stretching, cool downs, and reducing unnecessary strenuous activities.
  • Actively train and coach route setting team with varied assignments, feedback and regular performance reviews.
  • Collaborate with management to develop programming and events that engage and excite customers such as: competitions, climbing leagues, experiential climbs and events/classes intended to better integrate routesetters into our greater community.
  • Regularly meet with GM and Owner to discuss route setting operations, future initiatives, and ways to create a safer, more comprehensive and higher quality product.
  • Schedule route setting shifts with sufficient time to complete assignments, while always considering efficiency and impact on the gym’s busiest hours.
  • Utilize Plastick to build a route setting schedule, ensuring proper grade distribution and timely turnover of routes.
    Hire, train and develop part-time route setting staff as needed.
  • Ensure regular inspection of walls, holds, ropes, bolts, tools and equipment.
  • Ensure the setting room and hold storage remains well-kept and organized.
  • Maintain and purchase supplies, equipment, hardware and climbing holds as needed.
  • Help with other gym operations if needed such as: teaching classes, coaching, working Welcome Desk/Events and cleaning/organizing.

 

Requirements:

  • Prior experience with commercial route setting and management of a routesetting team are required.
    Must be an exceptional communicator, team player and continuously demonstrate the ability to coordinate a team.
  • Proficiency with working at height using Petzl PPE and experience operating a boom lift.
  • Must be able to set and forerun up to 5.13a/b and V9+
  • Experience with Plastik Software.
  • Able to lift heavy loads (50+lbs) and regularly complete physically strenuous labor.
  • USAC Route Setting Certification is not required, but preferred, and will be considered in starting salary

Schedule:

  • Monday through Friday, 8am-4pm, 40hrs/week with flexibility required.

What we can offer you:

  • Salary range starting at $45,000-$60,000 annually, depending on experience.
  • Annual bonus paid out at end of the year and based on performance.
  • 10 days PTO accrued over the first year based on completed pay periods.
