Junior Software Engineer (Part-time)

Capitan, the CRM for climbing gyms, is seeking a Junior Software Engineer to join our team. This part-time role offers a fantastic opportunity to gain a breadth of experience in a supportive environment while solving interesting problems for an exciting, growing industry. You will be reporting directly to Capitan’s cofounder, who has experience growing startup engineering teams and mentoring new developers at two prior tech companies.

Responsibilities:

• Software development: Implement new features to satisfy customer requirements.
• Technical support: Work directly with customers to investigate issues. Diagnose and resolve bugs.
• Customer onboarding support: Assist in onboarding new customers, writing and configuring code to migrate data into Capitan.
• Code review and testing: Collaborate with colleagues by reviewing and testing their code.
• Documentation: Document product interfaces and functionality.

Requirements:

• Strong understanding of software development principles.
• Experience with backend web application frameworks such as Django and Rails (Django experience preferred).
• Experience with frontend web application frameworks such as Angular and React (Angular experience preferred).
• A flexible schedule. This position does not have fixed hours. Some days may require more time when handling customer migrations, reviewing code before a release, or responding to inbound customer requests. There will also be a few daily or weekly tasks that can be done at your convenience. Migrations and releases will be announced ahead of time so you can plan accordingly.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills. You are the face of the company when interacting with customers.
• While we serve climbing gyms, we are a software company first. Experience with climbing is nice but is not required.

What You Need:

• Your own computer, with a reliable internet connection.
• Some prior work experience – this can be your first software job, but we are looking for someone that has some professional experience already.

Work Location:

This position is 100% remote at your own location within the US.

Compensation:

$40/hour, 10 hours per week total. As the business grows, we expect the hours to expand. You will be an independent contractor. This position does not provide benefits.
