    Beta Bouldering Gym opened in 2012 to provide the growing Flagstaff climbing community a place to train, socialize and get fit. Over the past decade, we have continued to grow and expand, focusing on these fundamental qualities. Today, we serve our community with the largest bouldering facility in northern Arizona and employ an extraordinary team that’s committed to our community, our members, and dedicated to creating an environment that is welcoming to beginners as well as experienced climbers.

    Job Summary:

    Beta Bouldering Gym is looking for an experienced individual to join our team as Head Routesetter and assist with Team Beta, our competitive climbing team. The focus of the Head Routesetter role will be to manage our team of routesetters, and to develop and expand the existing routesetting program. However, this role will also involve working closely with our Head Coach to assist in developing a comprehensive youth climbing program that caters to various skill levels, while creating a fun yet challenging environment for our athletes to grow in.

    Qualifications:

    • Passion for the sport of rock climbing and the craft of routesetting.
    • Hard-working individual with several years of previous routesetting experience.
    • Demonstrate the ability to perform, understand and communicate a high level of climbing movement.
    • Understanding of climbing techniques, training methodologies, and competition formats in USA Climbing.
    • Previous coaching experience in youth climbing programs or youth sports.
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to connect with both youth athletes and their parents.

    Primary Head Routesetter Responsibilities:

    • Develop and maintain a routesetting program, including but not limited to, hiring and training new routesetters toward a shared vision of functional, approachable, and aesthetically interesting routes, inclusive to the full spectrum of height and strength.
    • Maintain high-quality routes and appropriate distribution of difficulties and styles throughout the gym.
    • Give and receive constructive feedback and make appropriate adjustments and changes to routes when needed.
    • Follow best practices for work area safety and follow all safety protocols.
    • Work closely with the General Manager to understand staffing needs, route setting schedules, and developing budgets related to routesetting.
    • Responsible for hold purchases and all other equipment related to routesetting.
    • Inspect holds, bolts, tee nuts, ladders, and all associated route setting hardware to maintain a safe environment for all setters and members.
    • Assist with general facility maintenance and ensure the hold room and other workspaces are clean and organized.
    • Manage hold washing, organization, and sorting of fasteners and routesetting equipment.
    • Assist in organizing and facilitating climbing competitions.

    Assistant Team Coach Responsibilities:

    • Support a comprehensive youth climbing program that caters to various skill levels, ensuring a progressive and enjoyable learning experience.
    • Work with new and existing climbing coaches to provide hands-on instruction for youth climbers, focusing on skill development, technique, and safety in a recreational setting with the goal of moving the athletes into more competitive environments.
    • Lead and inspire our youth teams, fostering a positive team culture, promoting sportsmanship, and preparing athletes for the potential of competing in the future.
    • Support the Head Coach to coordinate with parents, when needed.
    • Work with other coaches and facility staff to create a cohesive and supportive team environment.
    • Uphold and enforce safety standards, ensuring a secure and enjoyable experience for all participants.

    Requirements:

    • Ability to accept, as well as give, critical feedback in a professional manner
    • CPR/First Aid Certifications
    • USAC Certification
    • Ability to uphold Work at Heights practices and policies

    Nice to have:

    • Previous management or leadership experience
    • Ability to climb V8 and forerun up to V10
    • 4-year College Degree preferred

    Job Type: Full-time, 40-hour week

    Salary: Full-time hourly from $20.00 to $26.00 per hour, based on experience

    Schedule:

    Typically, Monday through Friday, but some nights and weekends when needed to best serve our members and the community
