The AZR Ascenders are a successful and long running youth climbing team, having produced a World Champion, five National Champions, and multiple US Team Members, as well as won multiple Regional and Divisional Championship Team Awards in both bouldering and sport climbing.
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for enthusiastic and driven coaches who are passionate about rock climbing to join our team of coaches on our recreational and/or competitive team. The ideal candidate should have past experience working with children, and understand the patience and skill set required to teach young people. Previous rock climbing experience is a must, and previous youth climbing coaching experience is ideal, though not crucial as we will provide job specific training. Practices run every weekday evening, and Saturday mornings. There may be additional opportunities for cross department work in the facility as well.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Run team practice and follow a lesson plan provided by the head coach.
- Provide excellent customer service to all Ascenders families and athletes by communicating in a friendly and professional manner.
- Maintain regular communication with the head coach regarding Ascenders programming, individual team members progress, etc.
- Provide ongoing feedback to youth, their families, Head Coach and Supervisor regarding the needs and development of Ascenders Athletes.
- Manage the safety of athletes by performing belay set up double checks for new athletes, monitoring climbing sessions to watch for belay mistakes, actively spotting and moving crash pads in the bouldering area, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 18 years of age
- Enjoy working with youth ages 7-18
- At least 1 year of rock climbing experience required
- Previous coaching experience preferred
- Previous customer service experience preferred
SCHEDULE AND EXPECTATIONS
- Coaching shifts are generally Mon-Fri 3:45pm-6:45pm and Sat 9:00am-11:00am
- Opportunities for extra hours outside of practice times are available
- Must be dependable, responsible, and punctual.
Base hourly wage starts at $15 and may have flexibility based on experience.
