Job Summary

The ideal Summit General Manager is passionate about building a friendly, inclusive community, developing an outstanding customer-oriented team, and driving the operational success of the business. This role is all-encompassing and requires adaptability, teamwork, and a positive outlook. The GM is expected to maintain the day to day operations of their location, oversee maintenance of the facility, and lead their team to success by exemplifying and upholding Summit’s standards of leadership, customer service, and community values. The GM reports directly to the Senior Director of Operations, and reports indirectly to departmental senior-level directors. Depending on the size and needs of the facility, the GM will manage several Shift Managers and potentially a full or part-time Assistant GM(s). The GM works closely with this team to manage aspects of retail, events, yoga and fitness within their gym in cooperation with department directors.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Foster a positive, friendly, inclusive, and motivating environment for both employees and customers
  • Develop an outstanding team by hiring diverse and qualified candidates, coaching staff performance, resolving conflicts as needed, administering performance reviews, setting goals and outlining pathways for development, and offering career guidance
  • Communicate and work with all pertinent reports, above as well as below
  • Manage gym maintenance
  • Maintain high expectations of the organization and cleanliness of your gym
  • Plan and execute goals based on your gym’s analytics
  • Attend Manager and Operations Meetings, as well as run Staff/Shift Manager meetings
  • Participate in personal development meetings with reports above and below
  • Work approximately 6 hours on front desk per week
  • Fulfill a variety of administrative duties including scheduling, reporting, supplies ordering, etc.
  • Manage and execute tasks related to retail, inventory, event planning, yoga and fitness, etc.
  • Use systems such as GSuite, Trello, Airtable, Abacus, etc. to maintain organization

Qualifications and Skills

  • Required experience: leadership and customer service
  • Preferred experience: personnel management, project management, retail, marketing, knowledge of climbing gear, relatively extensive climbing background
  • Highly organized and self-motivated
  • Strong work ethic and teamwork mindset
  • Able to identify opportunities for growth in oneself, employees, the community, and the business
  • Able to problem-solve quickly in a range of situations
  • Flexibility to work days/evenings/weekends as needed
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic computer, Excel, GSuite, and administrative proficiency

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit at a desk/computer for up to 8 hours at a time during office hours
  • Ability to be on one’s feet for up to 8 hours at a time and lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis
  • Ability to ascend a 30 foot climbing wall if needed for any reason
  • Ability to travel between gyms and satellite locations
