General Description
Route Setters are the heart of our organization. They create inspiring, fun, and accessible boulder problems for climbers of all ages and skill levels. Route Setters work in small teams alongside the Head Routesetter to collaborate and work efficiently to produce challenging problems with an artistic flare. In order to build community and provide an adventurous, yet supportive, experience for our customers, the route setters are responsible for forerunning their problems. This helps to ensure consistency across Rock Haven’s grading system when combined with feedback from fellow teammates and members.
Responsibilities
Create a variety of boulder problems for climbers of different experience levels
Forerun and adjust boulder problems in a group environment
Provide and receive feedback regarding routesetting
Contribute to hold removal, washing, and sorting holds
Keep an organized and clean work area
Maintain climbing walls, including t-nut replacement, re-painting, and general repairs
Support and be involved with competitions and events
Job Requirements: Mandatory Qualifications
USAC volunteer membership (can complete in first 30 days)
SafeSport training complete (can complete in first 30 days)
Willing and available to complete USAC routesetter Clinic 1 or higher (reimbursement available, terms TBD)
Prior commercial gym routesetting experience
Job Requirements: Desired Qualifications
Have USAC Level 1 or higher certification
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, route setters are regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. Route setters are frequently required to climb ladders and use their hands to attach and remove climbing holds from walls. Route setters must regularly and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
