Competitive and Elite Team Coaches will be instructors, mentors, and leaders for our youth climbers. Coaches are responsible for assisting in the flow of practices by running training stations, instructing movement/correcting form, monitoring athlete behavior, and aiding in the pursuit of goal achievement. Under the guidance of our Head Coach, our coaching team is also responsible for a keen focus on continuous improvement through education, experience, and skill development; both in climbing instruction and leadership skills. The Team Reach Program is built upon a shared passion for dedicated hard work, fun, meaningful experiences, and lasting friendships/relationships.

Primary duties & responsibilities:

Promoting a healthy and agreed-upon culture that cultivates and fosters happy and healthy climbers while developing exemplary community members.

We simultaneously provide our youth climbers with a role model of what it means to be a leader, teacher, and friend.
Attend occasional parent meetings, competitions, training camps, and events

Collaborate with the coaching team to organize and efficiently execute team practice curriculum, based on each coaches strengths and weaknesses

Attend all team practices at Reach/The Factory and attend off-site practices and competitions at least 3 times per season

Supervise and closely monitor team practices for all 3 disciplines (Sport, Speed, Bouldering) and belay for Top-Rope and Lead Climbing when needed.

Regularly communicate with the Head Coach regarding issues and concerns of team members, parents, community members, and other coaches.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1-year experience as a climbing coach
  • Charismatic and friendly personality and supportive nature and tone
  • Represent the values and culture of Team Reach
  • Experience in working with youth and developing youth climbing athletes
  • Ability to climb V6/5.12 (not a strict requirement)
  • More than 1 year of experience with USA Climbing competitions, route setting, and/or competitive climbing
  • Current USA Climbing Coach membership, or the ability to obtain this immediately upon hire, is required. This includes Safesport, First Aid, and CPR certifications, and also the ability to pass a background check
  • Regular evening and weekend availability required

Optional duties & responsibilities (can be included for additional hours)

  • Up to two days of route setting per week (approximately 8 hours per day)
  • Private 1:1 training sessions for youths & adults (scheduled per your own availability)

Additional information

  • 6 to 9 hours per week (3x 2 or 3 hour practices) minimum required
  • Starting pay is $18/hr, experience allows for negotiation on pay
  • Competitions/Off-Site Practices receive a day-rate of $100/event
