High Point Climbing and Fitness, home of the Southern Grit National Cup Series, is now accepting applications for the position of Head Routesetter for its newest location in Memphis, Tennessee. Located just east of the city center in the thriving suburb of Germantown, High Point Memphis is a 32,000 sq. ft. facility built with a heavy focus on community integration, employee development, and a professional routesetting program. A spacious holds room/routesetter workshop, ladder carts, company provided routesetting gear, single level floor for large rolling hold/bolt/ladder carts, and a sizable hold selection curated specifically for the facility’s needs all contribute to High Point’s routesetter and community oriented focus.

With two full service facilities thriving in Chattanooga, Tennessee, a third and fourth in Birmingham and Huntsville, Alabama, respectively, High Point Memphis is the fifth High Point facility to open in the last five years, demonstrating High Point’s commitment to building industry-leading indoor rock climbing facilities throughout the Southeast. Specific Job Responsibilities

-Schedule weekly routesetting tasks
-Manage setting crew to accomplish tasks
-Continually develop setting program to best service community needs
-Maintain a demanding route and boulder turnover rate
-Set and maintain consistently high-quality rope climbs
-Set and maintain consistently high-quality boulder problems
-Lead consistent wall inspection and maintenance
-Organize, order, and maintain routesetting supplies
-Assist in training of prospective routesetters
-Work with Director of Routesetting in cultivating consistency across the High Point brand brand, organizing competitions, and “big-picture” items
-Maintain company risk management standards during routesetting
-Create and maintain appropriate diversity of climbing styles

Job Qualifications

Experience with motivating, managing and scheduling a small staff is required. Candidates must consistently demonstrate the ability to work in an effective and efficient manner to complete daily tasks, both individually, as well as in a group environment. Strong candidates will be able to demonstrate a “lead by a example” attitude in all aspects of their responsibilities. USA Climbing certifications are strongly recommended. Applicants should have a solid background in setting both routes and boulders up to 5.13/ V9, and have the ability to effectively forerun at that level multiple days each week.

Applicants should be willing to improve personal routesetting skills, systems pertinent to running an efficient and effective setting crew, as well as personal climbing skills. In addition, applicants will have a strong work ethic and be able to work on a demanding schedule. A positive attitude, solid problem solving skills, high level communication skills, and a consistent professional demeanor are all traits that top applicants will maintain.

Physical Requirements

Must be in appropriate physical condition for manual labor at height. Must be able to forerun at a high level for up to four days each week. Must be comfortable with consistently lifting and moving objects up to roughly 50 pounds.
