Job Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of climbing experience in multiple disciplines at an advanced level, including both indoor bouldering and sport climbing
  • Ability to provide quality, informed coaching on climbs up to 5.13 and V8
  • Experience coaching a competitive youth climbing team that was involved in the USA Climbing competition circuit
  • Preferred: 2 years instructing climbing to youth ages 6-18
  • Preferred: personal competition experience on the USA Climbing youth or professional circuit since 2015
  • Possession or active pursuance of the requirements to be a USA Climbing Certified Coach (currently up to date CPR/First Aid/AED, and SafeSport Training Program completion)
  • Familiarity with the USA Climbing rulebook and competition formats
  • General training knowledge and ability to use that knowledge to create training protocols for medium-sized programs (5-10 participants)
  • A passion for working with kids ages 6-18
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

Job Duties

  • Uphold the mission statement and core values for Team Ascent as well as the mission and values of the Ascent Studio Youth Instructional Program
  • Attend and lead all Prep Team OR Development Team practices for Team Ascent, as well as at least one other practice per week at the discretion of the Head Coach
  • Design and implement training programs for the Prep Team OR Development Team, under the guidance of the Head Coach
  • Consult on the qualification process for selecting members of the Prep, Development, and Competition levels of Team Ascent
  • Abide by coaching practices that emphasize the physical and emotional health and safety of all Team Ascent athletes
  • Assist the Head Coach in developing the direction, progression, and vision of Team Ascent and its athletes
  • Travel to local, Regional, Divisional, and National level competitions in support of qualifying Team Ascent athletes
  • Participate in the design and operation of seasonal training camps, under the guidance of the Head Coach
  • Support a healthy relationship with all other Front Range climbing team programs, athletes, and coaches
  • Maintain a constant line of communication with the Team Ascent parents and athletes on the Prep OR Dev Teams, and distribute all relevant information regarding practices, team events, and competitions
  • Communicate regularly with individual Team Ascent athletes and parents regarding athlete performance and progression
  • Perform administrative duties at the discretion of the Head Coach to assist with the logistic operations of Team Ascent
  • Pursue professional coaching development opportunities on a personal level, with the support of Ascent Studio Climbing & Fitness

Part time, 15-25 hours per week, weeknight and weekend availability is required.

Pay Range: $17/hr to $19/hr
