Title: Head Route Setter

Alpine Climbing Adventure Fitness is the Central Valley’s largest, most dynamic indoor rock-climbing gym and fitness center. Located just two hours west of Yosemite Valley, our facility fosters an active lifestyle while providing a creative work and social environment. We are looking for a value’s driven, energetic leader who has an entrepreneurial mindset and a willingness to foster a collaborative team culture. The Head Route Setter must have a passion for rock climbing, a knowledge of the art and enjoy building a connection to our growing community. The Head Route Setter is responsible for overseeing operations of the 16,500sf of climbing terrain and for ensuring the setting department is aligned with Alpine’s values and mission. The Head Setter will work closely with the General Manager and the Owners to ensure our guests have a diverse and engaging climbing customer experience, the setting team executes safely, and the setting rotation schedule meets all targets. The Head Route Setters responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Oversee all day to day setting operations within a given budget accomplishing a regular turnover cadence of routes (55’), boulders (15’), and Adventure Center routes (20’).
- Recruit, train and lead a team of Setters to provide a world class climbing customer experience.
- Executing safely Work at Height Standards while fostering an inclusive, creative and passionate team culture.
- Coordinate with the General Manager or other department leads on daily/weekly/monthly activities.
- Develop operating procedures for the team to drive standardization on execution within the setting department.
- Forerun and/or manage forerunning of all routes and problems to ensure consistent grading and quality.
- Organize and maintain route setting supplies while keeping route setting room clean.
- Regular upkeep of KAYA/Plastick setting software.
- Oversee weekly/quarterly PPE inspections.
- Promote Alpine within the community, inspiring a space that welcomes and celebrates families and climbers of all abilities.
- Share beta, encourage members, help noobs, be psyched every day and spread positive vibes.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 2+ years of experience setting in a commercial climbing facility.
- 2+ years of leadership experience managing and overseeing a team.
- Ability to forerun effectively 5.13/V8.
- USAC Setter Certification (preferred).
- CWA Work At Height (WaH) Certified (preferred).
- Experience setting for USA Climbing QEs for both routes & boulders (preferred).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Full understanding of Alpines values and mission.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work in an ambiguous, fast paced environment that changes daily.
- Proficiency in GSuite, Slack and Rock Gym Pro is a bonus.
- Full-time weekday schedule with flexibility as needed for special events & competitions.
