The Climbing Wall Association (CWA) recently announced the hiring of Paula Horwitz as the non-profit organization’s new Executive Director. Horwitz will lead the Boulder, Colorado-based association, which consistently provides resources, development programs, and community-based events for facilities, brands and personnel that are part of the greater climbing gym industry.

Horwitz was formerly the Executive Director of Education and Events at the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (ARVC) and currently sits on the Board of Directors for the International Accreditors for Continuing Education and Training (IACET). According to CWA’s newsletter, “[Horwitz’] exhaustive experience managing events, expos, and member-based organizations will prove critical as the CWA continues to lead the industry out of the pandemic.” [Editor’s Note: CWA’s annual Summit is the largest trade-industry conference of its kind for the climbing industry in North America.]

On the hiring, Horwitz commented: “I am thrilled to join the CWA team and work to support the advancement of the indoor climbing industry. I know, first-hand, the power and potential of an industry built on community and I look forward to working together to tap into the passion that drives us forward each and every day.”

CBJ previously reported on CWA’s plans for restructured leadership in May of last year. Horwitz’ predecessors in CWA leadership were former President/CEO Bill Zimmerman, and Garnet Moore—who served as the Interim Executive Director until Horwitz’ hiring and remains with the association as the Director of Operations.
