10. High Point
Wall Size: 28,000 sq.ft.
Location: Chattanooga, Tennessee
Wall Builder: Rockwerx
Coming in at 10th place is High Point, which is opening today, December 2nd, and has been called the largest climbing gym in an American downtown. Built in a 23,000 sq. ft. building that once housed a theater the building will house a parking garage on roof level. Because of the parking situation the developers could not build up so they had to build down, digging 20 feet below ground level to achieve the desired 40 ft. for the climbing walls inside the gym. High Point also has 55 ft. climbing walls and a speed wall on the outside of the building, which makes for quite a specticle for folks walking by.
This gym is one of the coolest facilities to be built in a long time and it’s nice to see development located near the town center rather than hidden in some out-of-the-way warehouse or office park on the other side of the tracks.
